1. Who We Are
This website, Manchester Photo Spots (https://manchesterphotospots.co.uk), is run by James Sheriff. If you have any questions about this policy, get in touch at j@sheriff.studio.
2. What Data We Collect
Personal data you give us directly We receive personal data directly if you email us at j@sheriff.studio, or if you subscribe to our newsletter (your email address, handled by Buttondown — see below). We don’t run a registration form or comment system.
Data collected automatically when you visit When any browser loads a page, a web server receives:
- Your IP address
- Your browser and operating system (user agent)
- Which page you requested and the referring URL
- The date and time of the request
Our hosting provider handles this data. We don’t access raw server logs ourselves.
Newsletter data (Buttondown) If you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address is stored by Buttondown, the service we use to send it. We use it only to send the newsletter, and you can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email.
Map data (Mapbox) Interactive maps on this site are powered by Mapbox. When a map loads, your browser connects to Mapbox servers, which may log your IP address.
3. Cookies and Similar Technologies
This site does not use advertising or analytics cookies, and does not show a cookie consent banner because none is required.
| Cookie / storage key | Set by | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mapbox session token | Mapbox | Keeps your map session consistent | Session (deleted on tab close) |
mps_favourites (local storage) | This site | Remembers spots you save on this device | Until you clear it |
mps_submissions (local storage) | This site | Remembers spot suggestions you’ve drafted on this device | Until you clear it |
Mapbox session tokens are set on pages with an interactive map, as they are technically necessary for the map to function. The favourites and submission-draft entries are stored only in your own browser and never sent to us.
4. Lawful Basis (UK GDPR Article 6)
| Processing purpose | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Sending the newsletter you signed up for | Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) |
| Responding to email enquiries | Legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)) |
5. Newsletter
Our newsletter is sent via Buttondown. When you subscribe, Buttondown stores your email address on our behalf. Every email includes an unsubscribe link; unsubscribing removes you from the list immediately. You can also email us to be removed.
